“A” DAY

Any 8th grade boys who will be attending Dearborn High and are interested in playing soccer should plan to attend a meeting today at 6pm in the DHS cafeteria. This is an information meeting to discuss summer condition and tryouts for the fall sports.

The Annual Viking Talent Show is coming! Auditions are today and tomorrow at 3pm each day in the auditorium. Please be sure to arrange for rides home and see Mrs. Burley for a TryOut Form.

Please note that Thursday, May 23rd will be the last day for book check-out in the Media Center. All books and/or fines owed, will be due back in the Media Center, no later than Wednesday, May 29th. Students who still have overdue books or unpaid fines on Friday, June 7th will not be allowed to participate in Field Day activities that day.

8th graders who believe they would like to test-out of a high school course such as a World Language, Algebra, etc. should see Mrs. Gilliland for a Test-Out Registration form. All students are allowed to test-out of up to 2 semester courses per semester. World Languages Test-Out Day will be June 6th at the ASC building and Non-World language course test-outs will be June 19th at their home high schools. Any questions, see Mrs. Gilliland.

Edsel Ford Cheerleading Tryouts:

Clinics: May 20th and 21st, 3:30 – 5:00pm
Final tryouts: May 23rd, 6pm
Please come dressed in proper gym attire and hair pulled back. Everyone must have a sports physical. This can be a copy of the one you have on file. Coach Wszola

PTSA needs your help :)

Hello, Smith students and families! In addition to this Thursday’s luncheon honoring the teachers and staff who dedicate every day to improving our children’s lives, we would like to encourage everyone to remember to simply say “Thank You” in your own special way to these men and women. A note, a hug, a treat, or just a smile and a wink, it is important that everyone know that they are valued and appreciated.

PTSA would like to collect as many donations as possible with the goal of providing replacement batteries for the heart rate monitors and a new ice machine (for treating student injuries). IF YOU OR A LOCAL BUSINESS ARE INTERESTED IN PURCHASING THESE LARGER TICKET ITEMS OUTRIGHT, PLEASE CALL PTSA AT 313-268-9786 OR OUR PRINCIPAL MRS. CHARLES 313-827-2800. Cash donations will also be accepted in A-Squared or in the main office.

PTSA has assembled the following wish list by asking each department for a WISH LIST of supplies that will assist in their mission of educating all of our children. We ask that you please choose something from this list and send in what you can between now and FRIDAY MAY 17. Students may turn in their items in A-Square or in the office.

Donations Please

Purpose:

To collect new teenage clothing and other items to help teenagers adjust to life in the Wayne County Family Center. I would like kids to learn the objective of Paying It Forward.

When: May 6, 2013 to May 15, 2013

Who: All students of O.L. Smith School

Where: Boxes in the Lobby of the School

What: Clothing, Teenage Goods and Electronic Drive

Why: Because we are all blessed with everything we have in our life, and this is our opportunity to “Pay It Forward” and be “Helping Hands” for those in need.

Items can be dropped off 15 mins prior to School each day in the School Lobby.

All items will be taken to the Family Center on May 16th for final drop-off.

For every 3 items, dropped off, a raffle ticket will be given for a final drawing on May 15th . Prizes will be various gift cards from local stores and restaurants.

For every 3 items you donate, you will receive a raffle ticket. $25 gift card is first prize. 2nd and 3rd prize will be a $10 gift card.

ATTENTION 8TH GRADERS GOING TO EFHS:

 

Incoming Freshmen orientation for EFHS will be TONIGHT at 6:30pm in their auditorium.  All incoming Freshmen will receive a free EFHS t-shirt!  Parents and students are welcome!

 

ATTENTION 8TH GRADE GIRLS GOING TO DEARBORN HIGH NEXT YEAR:

 

Cheerleader clinicals will be TODAY and May 9th from 7 – 9pm in the DHS gym.  Tryouts will be May 10th from 6-9pm.  You must have your sports physical on file by May 8th.  Come to clinicals wearing gym clothes and shoes.
