Common Questions Parents Have

How can I be involved in what my students is learning in class?

  • Ask your child what they learned in class and don't settle for a simple answer.  Have your child give examples. 
  • Use what he learned in everyday type things.  Help your child come up with examples. 
  • Extend your background knowledge to him or if you don't know anything about the subject help in research.

How can I make sure my student is turning his/her work in on time?

  • Use the calendar and make sure student is organized.
  • Help your student to become more organized.
  • Be on top of your student, if you are reminding you student everyday of what he/she needs to do then they will get it done if you motivate them. 
  • Spend time on preparing the homework and making sure they put it in the proper spot.
  • Follow up with child that day.  If they did not do it/hand in,  do what is necessary to make sure it gets in the next day.

How can I help my student to be more organized?

  • Ask your student what is going on in each of there classes.
  • Keep a calendar at home and write things on the calendar to keep things up to date

Where can my son/daughter get extra help with an assignment?

  • O.L. Smith offers an after school Homework Help program four days a week 

How much homework should I expect each night for my student?

  • The amount of homework a student gets varies from teacher to teacher, but you can email or phone your student's teachers to find roughly how much homework is given to your student during a given time.
