Hello Smith Parents,
Providing accurate information is part of our on-going commitment to keep an open line of communications with our parents and to prevent the spread of rumors or wild speculation.
Student safety, wellbeing, and creating a climate in our school focused on learning is one of our primary goals here at Smith. Today, we partnered with the Dearborn Police to strengthen that commitment.
This morning, the Dearborn Police K-9 unit was invited to walk through the hallways of our school. I’m very pleased to share with all of you the officers did not find any type of illegal substances.
The police were not here because of any specific threat or indication that illegal substances would be found; rather this was part of our ongoing effort to work with community partners, such as the Dearborn Police, to create a safe school environment. Dearborn Police K-9 units have been conducting “walk throughs” of Dearborn schools for many years at many locations. This serves to send a message to students and parents that school safety is important to us and is a great way for the Dearborn Police to further enhance the skills of their K-9 officers.
All of us hear at Smith pride ourselves on maintaining a safe learning environment for all students and staff. If any parent has a question or would like to discuss this further please e-mail or call my office at 827-2802. By continuing to share information and work together I know we will keep our school and neighborhood a great place to live, work and play.
Thank you
