B-Day
1) Lifetouch picture retake day is November 7th. Students who missed the picture day in
September may get their picture taken at this time. Order forms are available in the
main office. Those students who would like to have their picture retaken must return the full original package they received at this time.
2) The Scholastic Book Fair is coming the week of November 12th. Student and staff may
purchase items during the day on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday. The Book Fair will
also be open in the evening during Parent/Teacher Conferences on Monday, 11/12 and
Wednesday, 11/14. Additional information will be forthcoming.
3) The Holiday Fundraiser to support 6th, 7th and 8th grades has begun. Forms to order
your holiday wreath are available in the Main Office. All orders must be returned by
Monday, October 29th. Checks can be made payable to O.L. Smith PTSA.
4) Students interested in joining the new Art Club may pick up a permission
slip from the main office or see Mr. Kade. Art Club will be on Wednesdays
from 3:05-4pm in room 80 on the following dates: 10/31, 11/7, 11/14, 11/28,
12/5 and 12/12. Students will need to supply some personal art supplies
from home, however some supplies will be provided for them. Students will
also need to have their own transportation home when club dismisses.
5) Boys basketball tryouts will be held October 30th, 31st and November 1st from
3pm-4:30pm. Boys interested in trying out for basketball (6th,7th and 8th) need to sign
up on the sign up sheets outside of Coach Wellman’s room. (Room 11) Tryouts will
start next Tuesday 10/30 3-4:30, must have a physical turned in and proper gym attire. Questions please see Coach Wellman or Coach Petrusha
6) Girls swim tryouts will be held October 30th & 31st from 3:05pm-4:30pm. First practice
will be November 1st 3pm-5pm. Additional information from Coach Danni will be
Forthcoming.
7) Looks like the 7th grade is taking the lead in the Penny Wars!! The class buckets are
getting full! Who will win the pizza party?? Donations to the collection buckets for each
grade are located in the main office. The grade with the most pennies at the end of

8) Edsel Ford H.S. invites all Smith students to attend the annual Halloween
Haunted Theater for a spooktacular evening October 26th, 29th & 30th from
7pm-9pm. Admission to the Halloween Haunted Theater is $5 at the door.
9) NJHS Acceptance letters will be delivered by this week. The Induction
Ceremony will be Thursday, October 25th at 6:00pm.
10) Attention Basketball Players: The Dearborn Basketball Association is starting up
soon with a weekly practice and contests to be played here at O.L. Smith. There
are boys and girls divisions for players in grades 3 thru 8. The deadline to sign
up for the Dearborn Basketball Association program is November 1st. See your
Phys Ed teacher for an informational flyer if you are interested.
