O.L. Smith Middle School Daily Announcements Monday, March 25, 2019 B-Day
Washington DC Trip meeting for current 7th graders for the next year trip @ 6:30pm in the Smith Auditorium.
1) Locker clean out will be Wednesday, March 27th during A2. Students please remember to remove all food items from your locker and take home winter clothing.
2) There will be an 8th grade fundraiser today, March 25th at “On the Border” (located on the Hill). The Main Office has the flyer you must present for the class to receive 20% of your total bill.
3) Scholastic Book Fair – March 25th thru March 29th in the Media Center. Book Fair Times are Monday-Thursday 8am-3pm, Friday 8am-12pm. Family Fun Night – Wednesday March 27th. Enjoy the Scholastic Book Fair, Open Gym and Open Swim from 5:30pm-8pm. All students must be accompanied by an adult/parent.
4) Congratulations to the following Smith art students who are to be included in the 2019 Dearborn Festival of the Arts City Wide Art Show. Their incredible artwork was chosen from almost 800 pieces of art completed in all of Mr. Kades classes this year. The 10 very talented and creative art Students are: Fatima Aljeburi, Hadeel Antar, Olivia Bielaczyc (2 awards), Olivia Draus, Emily Finkbeiner, Emma Flynn (2 awards), Gabriella Palmeri (2 awards), Nadine Shehab, and Nori Tirgui.
Please congratulate these students for their dedication and hard work. Their artwork will be on display April 24th thru May 29th, at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center. Photos of the winning work is also featured on Mr. Kades Art Blog on the Smith website.
All winners please see Mr. Kade today, or early this week to receive your award and ribbon, and have your photo taken with your artwork for the opening night celebration.
5) The date for the Spring Orientation for Edsel Ford H.S. bound 8th grade students will be Thursday, March 28th from 6pm-8pm at Edsel. Families will gather in the auditorium for a brief welcoming from 6-6:30pm. From 6:30-8pm, families are invited to the cafeteria to meet with representatives of all the wonderful clubs, sports, and academic opportunities that are offered to students at Edsel Ford High School.
6) The Smith Instrumental Spring Concert will be April 30th at 6:30pm in the auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend the concert.
7) March Madness Planner Sale – Now is the time to purchase your Smith planner for only $3 in the Main Office. All Smith students are required to use the hall passes in their planner when going to the Main Office, the Counseling Office or Responsibility Room. If you lost your planner, now is the perfect time to buy a planner.
8) Art Club with Mr. Kade will be every Wednesday during the month of March from 3-4pm. Students will be asked to work on personal projects to be included in Fine Arts Night coming later in the school year.
9) Track tryouts begin April 9th. If you want to try out, you must sign up on the roster posted outside of Room 11, and have a sports physical on file. See Mr. Hesch or Mr. Wellman for additional information.
10) Students: You MUST use a signed hall pass in the back of your planner signed by a Teacher to go to the Main Office, Counseling Office, or the Responsibility Room room during scheduled class time or passing Time.
11) The NJHS students are available every Tuesday & Thursday from 2:55-3:30 in room 53 to assist any student who would like help with a math assignment or homework. See Dr. Elder or an NJHS student if you have questions.
12) The 24 Hour World Tour Coming To Smith! A select group of students (20-30) will be in the Media Center from the end of the day on Wednesday 5/22 until the end of school on Thursday 5/23. During this time, they will be skyping with people from all over the globe – from scientists, to students in other countries. This is a fabulous opportunity for our Vikings to participate in a truly unique learning opportunity.
