B-Day
1) M-Step testing for 7th & 8th grade students: May 2nd Make-up testing: May 3rd
2) A few students received an envelope regarding a Limited English Proficient Survey. Those students must return the survey to Mrs. Keveney in the Main Office by Friday, May 3rd. Thank you!
3) Students, as the warmer weather draws near, please remember that slip on sandals are not allowed in school. All sandals must have a back strap behind the heel. Shorts and skirts must be of fingertip length when arms are resting at your side and spaghetti strap tops/tank tops are not permitted in school. Please refer to the Smith Dress Code Policy for complete information and clarification.
4) Parents, the Smith PTSA needs YOU! Please consider becoming a PTSA Board member for the 2019/2020 school year. Nominations and Elections will be held for ALL POSITIONS (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer), as required by our charter/bylaws, at the next PTSA Meeting to be held May 14 at 6:30pm in the media center.
5) The PTSA is happy to invite you to join fellow OL Smith Vikings for a night of roller skating and fun on Tuesday, May 7th from 6-8pm at the Lincoln Park Skating Center! Admission is $8 (includes your skate rental) with a $1 discount for current PTSA members! IF PARENTS ARE DROPPING STUDENTS OFF, THEY MUST ARRIVE BY 7:30PM TO PICK THEM UP.
6) The 24 Hour World Tour Coming To Smith! A select group of students (20-30) will be in the Media Center from the end of the day on Wednesday 5/22 until the end of school on Thursday 5/23. During this time, they will be skyping with people from all over the globe – from scientists, to students in other countries. This is a fabulous opportunity for our Vikings to participate in a truly unique learning opportunity.
7) Free Dental Services for Smith students on Wednesday, May 29th starting at 9:00 am, Wednesday, May 29, 2019, Dentists R Us will be performing some free dental services for students at Smith Middle School. Forms will be distributed to the students the week of May 6th. Parents or guardians need to complete the form, sign it, and send it back to the main office by May 23rd. One student will have a chance to win an Android Tablet if 35 students or more participate in this free program. We encourage all Smith families who do not have dental providers or who have not seen a dentist in the past 6 months to take advantage of this program.
