Greetings Viking Community,

At approximately 2:40pm this afternoon, a wire came down at the corner of Yale and Syracuse – which caused a ‘brown out’ at Smith. We worked with law enforcement to ensure that all students were safe during dismissal.

I’d like to thank the parents, teachers and students for coming together to ensure safety during dismissal. Students were not dismissed until law enforcement informed us that the area was blocked off and secure. At no time were any students in danger.

Smith staff did an amazing job remaining calm and dismissing students in an orderly fashion. Smith parents were extremely understanding and patient while students were held in the building until all buses departed. Last, but not least, Smith students modeled the Viking values, exemplified maturity, and followed the directions of all staff members. This is a true example of what it looks like when a community comes together.
