It’s with a heavy heart that I write this blog post as we mourn the loss of one of our very own. As you may have heard, one of our previous students – 10th grader Zahraa Alasadi – passed away yesterday.
Zahraa Alasadi was a student leader loved by staff and students and continued to be involved in student activities at Smith even though she moved on to DHS. As a matter of fact, she spoke at our NJHS induction a couple of weeks ago about her medical journey.
Many of our students knew Zahraa and are deeply impacted – especially our 8th graders. We had social workers attend all 8th grade classes during first hour to inform students of this tragic loss and offer support. We also have social workers available in the counseling office for staff and students who need support.
We are deeply saddened by this unexpected loss.
My deepest and heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew her.
