OL Smith 6th grade students follow a block schedule, in which every class period is double the length of a normal period. During a “normal” in-person school year, this includes seeing some courses every-other day: All Electives, Science, and Social Studies.
Of course, this year is much different than a “normal” year and we will be running a remote schedule different than the regular face-face schedule.
Our 6th grade Electives, Science, and Social Studies will be meeting daily for an entire quarter, then swapping the following quarter.
A-Day classes will meet daily (synchronously and asynchronously) for quarters 1 & 3;
B-Day classes will meet daily (synchronously and asynchronously) for quarters 2 & 4.
Your child’s teachers will help explain and support this schedule. It will allow the same amount of meeting time as a “normal” year would, but will allow for our teachers to meet with the same groups of students regularly to ensure deep understanding. Most importantly, it will enable teachers to establish strong relationships and support during these unprecedented times.
