The Viking Week Ahead 5/23 -5/26

5/23/2022 -5/26/2022:

Greetings Vikings!

It’s hard to believe but the end of May is already upon us!  As the weather heats up sometimes it is easy to be looking ahead to June and we forget to take advantage of every opportunity life has for us.  Our teachers are putting together engaging lessons to keep the love of learning flowing.  You will see a few snapshots of the great things happening attached to this communication.

I am requesting your help in talking to your students about the importance of seeing the year through.  We have seen an increase in instances of horseplay, especially in hallways.  The latest Tik-Tok inspired behaviors are “dunking” when a student jumps over another pushing their heads down like dunking in a pool.  This is 99% of the time between friends, but is obviously very dangerous and can escalate quickly.  We are reviewing the age-old expectation of keeping hands to ourselves, please have the same discussion with your child.  We will be strictly enforcing this, because we definitely do not want anyone seriously injured.

We have a short week ahead, let’s make it a great one!

Important Notes and Reminders:

  • Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we will be NWEA testing.  Please do not forget your chromebooks!

  • Our Summer Program this year will be combined with Stout Middle School.  This will be a wonderful opportunity for students to meet up with others in our feeder track and build relationships that they can carry into high school.
    • The program will be at Stout.  Transportation will be provided for Smith students, more details will be provided soon.
  • Friday, June 10th, 8th Grade Field Day! If you can help, please contact Ms. Makled with the PTSA
