A-Day
1) Have you seen the Smith arium area lately? Our very own Student Council members, under the supervision of Mr. Radcliffe, did an amazing job sprucing up the atrium with plants, large flower pots and decorative stone. Nicely done Vikings!
2) Students, as the warmer weather draws near, please remember that slip on sandals are not allowed in school. All sandals must have a back strap behind the heel. Shorts must be of fingertip length when arms are resting at your side and spaghetti strap tops are not permitted in school. Please refer to the Smith Dress Code Policy for complete information and clarification.
3) Track Meet today vs Salina @ home – 3:30
4) There will be a Washington DC parent meeting Monday April 29th at 6pm in the auditorium for parents of 8th grade students who are attending the trip.
5) There will be an 8th grade ALL parent meeting Monday, April 29th at approximately 6:30pm for any parent that wants to help plan the end of year events. Please join us! This meeting will take place immediately following the parent meeting for 8th graders participating in the Washington DC trip.
6) Parents, your Smith PTSA needs YOU! Please consider becoming a PTSA Board member for the 2019/2020 school year. Nominations and Elections will be held for ALL POSITIONS (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer), as required by our charter/bylaws, at the next PTSA Meeting to be held May 14 at 6:30pm in the media center.
7) The deadline for parents/guardians to review their child’s 2019-2020 Elective Course Request selection is Friday, April 26th. PLEASE NOTE: The cut off date to make course request changes is 3:00pm on April 26th. NO CHANGE REQUESTS WILL BE HONORED AFTER THIS DATE.
8) Spring Dance – Friday, April 26th. 3pm-4:30pm You must have a ticket to enter the dance.
9) The 2019 Dearborn Festival of the Arts City Wide Art Show will be at the Ford Community and Performing Arts Center from April 24th thru May 29th.
10) The Smith Instrumental Spring Concert will be April 30th at 6:30pm in the auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend the concert.
11) The PTSA is happy to invite you to join fellow OL Smith Vikings for a night of roller skating and fun on Tuesday, May 7th from 6-8pm at the Lincoln Park Skating Center! Admission is $8 (includes your skate rental) with a $1 discount for current PTSA members! IF PARENTS ARE DROPPING STUDENTS OFF, THEY MUST ARRIVE BY 7:30PM TO PICK THEM UP.
12) The 24 Hour World Tour Coming To Smith! A select group of students (20-30) will be in the Media Center from the end of the day on Wednesday 5/22 until the end of school on Thursday 5/23. During this time, they will be skyping with people from all over the globe – from scientists, to students in other countries. This is a fabulous opportunity for our Vikings to participate in a truly unique learning opportunity.
13) Free Dental Services for Smith students on Wednesday, May 29th starting at 9:00 am, Wednesday, May 29, 2019, Dentists R Us will be performing some free dental services for students at Smith Middle School. Forms will be distributed to the students the week of May 6th. Parents or guardians need to complete the form, sign it, and send it back to the main office by May 23rd. One student will have a chance to win an Android Tablet if 35 students or more participate in this free program. We encourage all Smith families who do not have dental providers or who have not seen a dentist in the past 6 months to take advantage of this program.
