A-Day
Girls track practice cancelled after school today. Boys track practice is still happening after school today.
1) M-Step testing for 6th grade students: May 7th & May 9th make up testing for 6th grade & 7th graders: May 8th & 10th
2) On May 7th, Ms. J and her 8th grade students will hold the Seal of Bi-literacy Program. Congratulations to the students who receive this award!
3) 8th Grade Washington DC Trip – May 8th, 9th & 10th. Have fun and represent your school with pride!
4) May 10th – Dr. Edler and the Green School Student Committee along with Mr. Baiz and the Garden Club students will be attending the Wayne County’s Michigan Green Schools Recognition Ceremony.
5) Track Meet at Woodworth – May 8th @ 3:30pm.
6) The Athletic Director from Dearborn High School will be in the auditorium speaking with 8th grade DHS bound students on Thursday, May 23rd from 9:25-10:00am regarding playing sports next year.
7) Incoming 6th grade students should attend the Smith Orientation on Wednesday, May 8th at 6pm in the auditorium. Current Smith students who have incoming siblings, please encourage them to attend this important meeting.
8) Track pictures will be taken on Tuesday, May 21st starting at 2:50 for both boys and girls.
9) Students, as the warmer weather draws near, please remember that slip on sandals are not allowed in school. All sandals must have a back strap behind the heel. Shorts and skirts must be of fingertip length when arms are resting at your side and spaghetti strap tops/tank tops are not permitted in school. Please refer to the Smith Dress Code Policy for complete information and clarification.
10) Parents, the Smith PTSA needs YOU! Please consider becoming a PTSA Board member for the 2019/2020 school year. Nominations and Elections will be held for ALL POSITIONS (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer), as required by our charter/bylaws, at the next PTSA Meeting to be held May 14 at 6:30pm in the media center.
11) The PTSA is happy to invite you to join fellow OL Smith Vikings for a night of roller skating and fun on Tuesday, May 7th from 6-8pm at the Lincoln Park Skating Center! Admission is $8 (includes your skate rental) with a $1 discount for current PTSA members! IF PARENTS ARE DROPPING STUDENTS OFF, THEY MUST ARRIVE BY 7:30PM TO PICK THEM UP.
12) The 24 Hour World Tour Coming To Smith! A select group of students (20-30) will be in the Media Center from the end of the day on Wednesday 5/22 until the end of school on Thursday 5/23. During this time, they will be skyping with people from all over the globe – from scientists, to students in other countries. This is a fabulous opportunity for our Vikings to participate in a truly unique learning opportunity.
13) Free Dental Services for Smith students on Wednesday, May 29th Dentists-R-Us will be providing free dental services for students on May 29th. Completed forms must be returned to the main office by May 23rd. One student will have a chance to win an Android Tablet if 35 students or more participate in this free program. We encourage all Smith families who do not have dental providers or who have not seen a dentist in the past 6 months to take advantage of this program.
