A-Day
1) M-Step testing for 6th grade students: May 9th Make up testing for 6th grade & 7th graders: 10th
2) May 10th – Dr. Edler and the Green School Student Committee along with Mr. Baiz and the Garden Club students will be attending the Wayne County’s Michigan Green Schools Recognition Ceremony.
3) The Athletic Director from Dearborn High School will be in the auditorium speaking with 8th grade DHS bound students on Thursday, May 23rd from 9:25-10:00am regarding playing sports next year.
4) Smith 7th & 8th grade students are invited to apply to Camp RN which is a two week pre-college summer program designed to educate middle school students of the opportunities available through a nursing career. Camp will be held at Oakland University’s main campus in Rochester during the last two weeks of July 2019. This entertaining and educational camp exposes students to various areas, including; anatomy & physiology, chemistry, nutrition, nursing fundamentals, and much more! Camp RN is innovative, inspirational, and sure to create fun memories!
Students will be actively engaged in experiments, as well as team building activities and touring Oakland University’s campus. Camp RN is limited to 25 students and campers are selected based on a competitive application process. 5) Track pictures will be taken on Tuesday, May 21st starting at 2:50 for both boys and girls.
6) Students, as the warmer weather draws near, please remember that slip on sandals are not allowed in school. All sandals must have a back strap behind the heel. Shorts and skirts must be of fingertip length when arms are resting at your side and spaghetti strap tops/tank tops are not permitted in school. Please refer to the Smith Dress Code Policy for complete information and clarification.
7) Parents, the Smith PTSA needs YOU! Please consider becoming a PTSABoard member for the 2019/2020 school year. Nominations and Elections will be held for ALL POSITIONS (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer), as required by our charter/bylaws, at the next PTSA Meeting to be held May 14 at 6:30pm in the media center.
8) The 24 Hour World Tour Coming To Smith! A select group of students (20-30) will be in the Media Center from the end of the day on Wednesday 5/22 until the end of school on Thursday 5/23. During this time, they will be skyping with people from all over the globe – from scientists, to students in other countries. This is a fabulous opportunity for our Vikings to participate in a truly unique learning opportunity.
9) Free Dental Services for Smith students on Wednesday, May 29th Dentists-R-Us will be providing free dental services for students on May 29th. Completed forms must be returned to the main office by May 23rd. One student will have a chance to win an Android Tablet if 35 students or more participate in this free program. We encourage all Smith families who do not have dental providers or who have not seen a dentist in the past 6 months to take advantage of this program.
10) 8th grade Farewell & Promotion Ceremony will be held at EFHS on
Thursday, June 13th in the Auditorium from 6pm-7:30pm.
