Art students in Mr. Kades class enjoyed a visit from special guest speaker, local pottery artist Olivia Brock. Olivia is a ceramicist who specializes in clay. She shared with the Smith art students her background, schooling and presented examples of her great work. Ms. Brock was able to show the class how she molds a ball of clay into beautiful art by using the school clay wheel, and creatively turning the clay into usable pottery bowls.
Olivia then made some bowls for the Empty Bowls Dinner Project which will take place on November 25th at Park Place in Dearborn. This wonderful event costs only $5 per person. The admission fee includes an all you can eat soup and bread buffet, along with choosing one of the hundreds of student made ceramic bowls to take home with you.
The students were engaged in learning the process of “throwing a clay pot” and enjoyed having Olivia show them special clay molding techniques.
