O.L. Smith Middle School

Welcome Assistant Principal Wegher

We are excited to welcome home to Dearborn our newest Viking, Mr. Wegher. Below is a brief introduction from our Assistant Principal:

OL Smith Viking Community Members,

I would like to take a moment to introduce myself to our community.  My names is Michael Wegher and I am proud to say that I am the new Assistant Principal of OL Smith Middle School.

I began my career in education here in the Dearborn Public School district.  I proudly attended Whitmore-Bolles Elementary School, Stout Middle School (it was technically a Junior High School), and Edsel Ford High School.  After doing my undergraduate studies at Central Michigan University, I returned to Dearborn for my student teaching at Fordson High School in the Winter of 2001.  I went on to be hired by the Taylor School District in 2002 where I was a Middle and High School Social Studies Teacher and then a Middle and High School Assistant Principal.  In 2018, I was given the tremendous honor and responsibility of becoming the Principal of John Glenn High School in the Wayne-Westland Community School District.  Then during this Fall, I saw an opportunity to return to my hometown and jumped at that opportunity, which has brought me home to the neighborhood I grew up in.

Through the course of my life, my experiences have prepared me to be the Assistant Principal of OL Smith.  My childhood experiences are not all that different than those of our students.  My professional experiences have furthered my understanding of how I can work to get the best out of every student that I interact with.  I promise to bring these experiences and tools to the OL Smith community and to dedicate myself to always being there for our students.

In closing, I cannot think of a more perfect week to make this transition than Thanksgiving week.  So, to keep with the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to close with these thoughts.  I am thankful to have the opportunity to return to my hometown of Dearborn.  Thankful to have the opportunity to be part of a great team with Principal Rummel.  Thankful to continue the good things and traditions that are part of the OL Smith community.  Thankful to be available and ready to help all students succeed and to be prepared for their high school experience and beyond.  Thankful for all of the good things in life.  I look forward to meeting everyone in person in the coming days.

Sincerely,

Michael Wegher

Assistant Principal
