Greetings Vikings!
It truly was a great first week of October, and we capped it off with an amazing assembly, with the inspiring words of NFL Superbowl Champion Lee Rouson. His willingness to use his platform to bring positive lessons to our students was entertaining, reflective, and inspiring. He also signed 471 football cards, which each student will be getting in their advisory classes on Monday. HUGE thank you to the Kiwanis Club, Rotary Club, and Dr. Bazzi-Gates for bringing this Sportsworld presentation to us!
Each month our PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) team sets a goal for our students that supports being Safe, Respectful, and Responsible. The goal for this month is making positive behavioral choices. For the month of October, ANY student with no ODRs qualifies for the end of month celebration. Though our students had a great first month, we are wiping the slate clean and assuring everyone has a chance to celebrate!
In regards to the great first month our students are having, we have to recognize:
- Tardies are down 50% from a year ago. Students recognize the need to be to class on time and are making it happen!
- PBIS Viking Vouchers (positive recognition/caught being AWESOME) are in at record numbers for the month of September. Our largest number to date: 572 positive instances of our Vikings doing the right thing, even when they think nobody is looking.
- The visiting members in our assembly remarked that OL Smith was one of the best audiences they had been a part of. This is no doubt the result of the partnership between students, you families at home, and the OL Smith team! Thank you!

Student/Family Notes:
- Next week in keeping with Lee Rouson’s Message and Bullying Prevention month, we are offering a new PBIS Reward open to ALL regardless of past!
- From October 10th – October 31st, Students with no office disciplinary referrals will be eligible for the PBIS celebration! The PBIS Committee is working on a great one! Stay tuned for more information!
- The PTSA will be sending a sign-up genius link for all those interested in volunteering for the Haunted Carwash Fundraiser
