O.L. Smith Middle School

Dr. Chochol Came to Read to O.L. Smith Students Today…Thank You!!

O.L. Smith students were treated to a wonderful reading by  Dr. Jill Chochol, Executive Director  of Elementary Education.    She read the book, “All You Can Be: Dream It, Draw It, Become It!”, by  Curtis Granderson.  The Detroit Tigers center fielder offers life lessons to coincide with nine innings of baseball and includes stories from his own life to accompany them. His advice to young people ranges from choosing the right friends to playing with passion and valuing your family. The artwork was created by fourth graders from all over the state of Michigan as part of a contest sponsored by the Grand Kids Foundation. The illustrations show themes of community service, education, and family. Most of them were done in crayons and colored pencils. Full-color photographs from Granderson’s childhood are also sprinkled throughout the book. The author’s writing is age appropriate and easy to comprehend. His fans will enjoy this book and learn from his personal anecdotes. Educators and parents will also find value in this book as a tool to reach reluctant readers.—Kris Hickey, Columbus
