2) Save the Date: The next Scholastic Book Fair will be from March 23th to March 29th.
3) Student Reward Program: All students who check out books with your ID card will get to add a
sticker to our “famous mystery painting” by the showcase, and DURING MARCH, will also get a
special origami fox bookmark (while supplies last).
4) Everyone is welcome to attend the Smith Fine Arts Night on Tuesday, March 27th from
6pm – 7pm. Students will display their talents, artwork and special skills for an evening of
family fun and entertainment. There will be a silent auction, a small concessions stand,
the latest news & Smith gear available to purchase, a book fair and instrumental music performed
by the Smith students for your listening pleasure. Monetary donations will be accepted to help
support these programs. Everyone is welcome to attend and we hope to see you there!
5) Smith A2 classes will be having a Gift Basket Competition for the upcoming Fine Arts Family
Night. Each A2 is asked to come up with a theme for their basket and students are asked to
bring in 1 donated item their themed basket. Deadline to bring in your donated item for the
basket is today, March 23rd. Your participation is greatly appreciated!
6) The Spring Freshman Orientation for Edsel Ford High School will be Wednesday,
March 28th at 6pm for all incoming 9th graders. Parents and students are welcome to
attend this informational meeting. The Dearborn H. S. 8th Grade Parent Night will be
March 28th at 6:30 pm in the Dearborn High Auditorium. Students and parents are encouraged to attend their appropriate 9th grade high school orientation to meet some of the staff, find out about awesome clubs and athletic opportunities, tour the building, and learn a little bit about what life is like in high school.
7) Monday, March 26th is Epilepsy Awareness Day. The PTSA is asking staff
and student to wear purple to show support.
8) The Smith PTSA is sponsoring a Subway Ticket Fundraiser from March 21st thru April 9th.
A $20 Subway Ticket Coupon Booklet contains 32 coupons for BOGO subs. Students can sell
the coupon booklets to family, friends, neighbors and organizations using the order forms that
you will receive during your A2 class. There will be prizes for the highest sellers.

9) The Student Council Spring Dance will take place on Friday, April 20th 2018,
from 3-4:30 pm. Parents interested in chaperoning, volunteering, or
donating please contact Ms. Fisher at 313-595-8567. More details about the
dance will be made available upon Student Council’s approval.
10) Mr. Wellman will hold an informational parent meeting regarding a 2019 trip to
Washington D.C. for the current 7th grade students on Tuesday, April 17th in the
auditorium from 5:30-6:00pm. There will also be a 7th grade parent fundraising meeting directly
afterward in the Media Center from 6-7pm.
11) Attn. 8th grade students: Mr. Wellman will host a Washington D.C. parent meeting in the
auditorium on Tuesday, April 17th from 6-6:30pm for current 8th grade students who will be
attending the trip.
12) The first day of track practice with Coach Wellman will be Tuesday, April 10th right after school.
(Tryouts to be determined.) Students must meet the following requirements to participate:
– Updated physical form turned into the office, you can not participate without one
– Proper attire for running, shoes and athletic apparel (no jeans)
– Must be there to run, work hard, and improve every day, not just there to socialize
– Must have passing grades (FAILING IS NOT AN OPTION)
– Must be respectful and responsible in and out of the classroom
– Most importantly, have a good attitude towards the sport and towards others
