Greetings O.L. Smith families,
ACCESS has some exciting news. We are currently offering a Summer Program to incoming 6th, 7th, 8th grade students at O.L. Smith.
The ACCESS program is not your typical Summer School program. The ACCESS Summer program provides youth with an opportunity to meet new people, share amazing experiences, and grow academically. During the Summer Program students work to fill gaps in learning that hinder success in Language Arts and Mathematics. Students are provided enrichment in these area with a focus on ELA: building vocabulary, reading comprehension, and descriptive writing. In math students will review how to perform basic math operations on fractions, adding and subtracting negative numbers and fractions, and much more.
Youth will also participate in Art, STEM, and physical activities, bi-weekly field trips, structured games, teambuilding and character development activities. ACCESS has also teamed with the Detroit Zoo to bring citizen science activities to students.
The program runs Monday-Thursday 8:30 am-12:30 pm at O.L. Smith. Breakfast and lunch are provided. Parents -feel free to drop by room 6 during program hours to register your son or daughter. If you have questions regarding the program please contact Ms. Peterson at petersg@dearbornschools.org or Asya Obad at obada@dearbornschools.org. Space is limited.
